Shepard Fairey Threatens to Sue

That damn song (Alanis Morissette) starts to play in my head now. But it seems ole Obey Giant (Shepard Fairey) has filed a complaint with this guy (I have never heard of until now) Baxter Orr for copying his work…Ironic? Karma? Or maybe this Baxter kid should get his own ideas? However you may see it, Fairey’s request just gave this kid a name (or 15 minutes) in the design-pseudo art world. This brings a new second level twist on Picasso’s “Good artists copy, great artists steal.” What do you think, we would love to hear…

Have you ever seen the movie Multiplicity? That movie was horrible.

i heard that this was a publicity stunt and untrue.. can anyone verify this either way? i would be pretty surprised if this was true.

well, lets see. Good ol shep has been using already established media and faces that already have a name and made it into his own vision. In many ways I can consider this to be a copy, but in another way who cares. If this guy made a copy and obviously looks like a mock of sheps work, then let it be. We all know who is who and whos style is more defined and established. I think art just like music and fashion recycles itself and just gets stronger as time progresses. Shep needs to sit back, enjoy the fact that theres people that fancy his work. As long as this other guys isnt making a profit out of it, who cares? didnt we all have to copy someone famous during our beginning years? didnt we have to sometimes mock a famous artist in class to pass our grades? let it go, stop sueing and keep painting. PS - where were the people who owned the buildings that shepard used to wheat paste on or paint on? he was doing something illegal then and now hes sueing someone for a copy of his work? hahahah shep we love ya work, but sometimes ya gotta let it go.
