A recent internal project required us to create this file of over 75 national flags in vector and raster format. We are now giving this away and hoping it may help someone else out there. The file is saved in Adobe Illustrator CS1 format and can be used anyway you like. Some images were found from various sources online, many were drawn from scratch by YouWorkForThem. Download Freebie

LOREM IPSUM VADE MECUM is a publication we’ve pieced together to provide our community with insightful content about typography and other design topics while utilizing our versatile font collection. LOREM includes articles from Design Assembly, Willi Kunz, Terese Elhard, Matt Desmond, Ryan Nelson and interviews with Gerard Unger and John Maeda. The compendium was designed in collaboration with Sarah Kissell. This compendium features many of our popular fonts and incorporates stock vectors and images where possible. All fonts are linked at the bottom of each page which should make purchasing them fairly easy. We hope you enjoy!

apply_blog

Apply is a free texture tool that allows you to customize any font you wish with an array of inky splatters and sprays. Copy your type layer and paste in place, then change the top layer to the Apply OpenType font to easily get the desired effect. Give this a try with any of our newest releases for some very interesting results.

A.M. Cassandre produced the typeface Bifur for Peignot in 1929. Bifur broke from rigid typographic forms by combining Art Deco principles of obsessive geometry with the line and stroke of letter forms. Skute picks up Cassandre’s spirit and carries it onward in YWFT hand set fashion. And we are happy to give it out to you. Yep, that’s right, we’re giving Skute to you for your own personal use! Should you need to use Skute for a commercial project or want more letters, buy the enhanced Pro version, Skute Pro.

As mentioned in our last post, it is the Thai new year here in Bangkok, known here as Songkran. We had a rough new year this time around, but the chaos has moved along and peace is with us now. In honor of the new year and an end to the chaos, we are happy to present our latest freebie. One super hot file of various botanical and flourish like elements. This file is a little different than our usual products, because it contains illustrator transparencies and we saved as CS3. Typically our stock vector products are saved as EPS version 8, so basically anyone can open them with any major image/vector editing application (you would be surprised at the amount of Corel draw users out there).

We hope you enjoy this free set of beautiful vectors!

zine4

We are proud to announce the release of ZINE4. This time around we used our new product line up Guilloche & Moire as the methods and medium of exploration.

Guilloche is an engraving technique in which a very precise intricate repetitive patterns or design is mechanically etched into an underlying material with very fine detail. Specifically, it involves a technique of engine turning, called guilloché in French after the French engineer “Guillot”, who invented a machine “that could scratch fine patterns and designs on metallic surfaces”. The machine improved upon the more time-consuming practice of making similar designs by hand, allowing for greater delicacy, precision, and closeness of the line, as well as greater speed.

In physics, a moire pattern  is an interference pattern created, for example, when two grids are overlaid at an angle, or when they have slightly different mesh sizes. In textiles, a moire is a fabric with a wavy (watered) appearance, caused by varying the tension in the warp and weft of the weave.

First thing first, thank you to our families, customers and supporters!

Six years ago, YouWorkForThem started out as two guys (Michael Cina & Michael Young) running the business from a spare bedroom in the suburbs of Minneapolis, MN with less than 50 products. Many people doubted us and what we were going to do with this store. But we kept on working and we now handle over 200 fonts, 1300 book titles, 14,000 stock art items, and many more various products.
