What began as Chile’s first digital type foundry has gone on to become one of the most well-known type foundries in the world more than a decade later. Established by Miguel Hernández, who was later joined by Luciano Vergara and Daniel Hernández, LatinoType adheres to what is perhaps the most familiar quote from Pablo Picasso: “Inspiration exists, but it has to find you working.”
That’s why no matter what they’re currently involved in, the men behind LatinoType never cease to stop working or creating new things. The momentum they’ve established is unstoppable, so much so that LatinoType’s fonts can be found in graphic designs around the world. When it comes to typography, their work is designed to not only meet the needs of graphic designers in terms of design aesthetics, but they also provide a high degree of versatility and multilingual support, as well.
LatinoType’s designs range from traditional to contemporary, always with a signature South American flair, and they offer a variety of serifs, sans serifs, display type, and script lettering. They’re not simply all about releasing products, either; LatinoType recognizes the importance of education and they offer continued support for upcoming and would-be type designers. They spend quite a bit of time nurturing the future careers of those who are pursuing work in the industry by participating in educational workshops where they can share their wealth of knowledge and experience in typography.
When it comes to releasing new products, LatinoType can often be found working with type designers throughout Chile and South America, including Rodrigo Fuenzalida, an Argentinian typographer, illustrator, and graphic designer. Rodrigo crafted one of LatinoType’s most recent releases, Market, a type design that was inspired by hand-painted grocery store signs.
Market features warm, softly rounded lettering that gets your message across with a friendly demeanor. It balances the characteristics of classical Roman lettering and casual script elements, making it equally well suited to large-scale signage and displays or smaller body text passages. Market is ideal for signage, advertising, product packaging, labels, headlines, titling, editorial designs, web copy, merchandise, apparel, branding and identity projects.
Market includes two subfamilies, Regular and Alt, in five weights each: Light, Thin, Regular, Medium and Bold. A separate font, Market Extras, offers a series of miscellaneous icons like banners, arrows, ornaments, and sparkles that make it a snap to add those types of graphic elements to your finished designs.
Market offers case sensitive forms, fractions, ordinals, standard ligatures, oldstyle figures, and stylistic alternates for added versatility. Its multilingual support extends to Basic Latin, Western European, Euro, Catalan, Baltic, Turkish, Central European, Romanian, Pan African Latin, and Dutch, providing accessibility for more than 200 languages.
