TT Norms Std Condensed, New From TypeType Foundry
Originally established in 2013, TypeType was among the very first type foundries to emerge in St. Petersburg, Russia.
Founded by Ivan Gladkikh and Alexander Kudryavtsev, the foundry and studio has continually worked with a growing number of graphic designers and typographers over the years, finding that such creative collaboration enables TypeType to thrive in a busy design economy.
The foundry is dedicated to crafting type designs that are affordable yet highly versatile and innovative. Every type design is carefully drawn and thoroughly tested to make sure that graphic designers are getting a high-quality product with plenty of flexibility through OpenType features and extensive multilingual support.
Because the foundry relies heavily on artistic collaboration, it is not uncommon for any given type design to have multiple typographers working together to complete a given project. One of their most recent releases, TT Norms Std Condensed, was designed by Pavel Emelyanov and Yulia Gonina, in conjunction with the TypeType team.
TT Norms Std Condensed is “the logical development” of one of TypeType’s bestselling designs, TT Norms. The contemporary geometric grotesk is a reliable workhorse font family that graphic designers around the world embraced because of its clean and standard presentation.
“Since the release of TT Norms, we received a bunch of requests to create its narrow version,” the foundry said. TypeType added that they managed to make several custom projects of a narrower TT Norms before they made the decision to craft a full and commercial version of the type design now known as TT Norms Std Condensed.
“At the very beginning of the project, we did some research and tested several options for the possible width of the typeface,” the foundry explained. “Although TT Norms Std Condensed has narrower proportions than the original family, it inherited the classic proportions of characters, attention to detail, and meticulous elaboration of each character in the typeface.”
TT Norms Std Condensed provides the same level of crisp legibility as its older sibling, conveying every message with clarity and a neutral tone. Its condensed structure is perfect for design projects that need to maximize limited horizontal space.
This type family consists of 18 unique typefaces in total, providing weights that include Thin, ExtraLight, Light, Regular, Normal, Medium, Bold, ExtraBold, and Black, with corresponding italics for each. This range of styles makes TT Norms Std Condensed perfect for design projects of all kinds, including headlines and editorials, body copy, website designs, mobile applications, advertising, displays, signage, logos, product packaging, merchandise, apparel, corporate communications, marketing materials, and so much more.
Like TypeType’s previous work, TT Norms Std Condensed offers additional versatility through OpenType, providing case sensitive forms, localized forms, tabular figures, discretionary ligatures, and contextual alternates. It extends multilingual support to Basic Latin, Western European, Euro, Catalan, Pan African Latin, Dutch, and Basic Cyrillic for design projects intended for a global audience.
TypeType currently offers 45 products through YouWorkForThem, including a varied collection of serifs, sans serifs, scripts, and display fonts to suit design projects of all kinds.
