Michael Parson is the skilled typographer and graphic designer behind Typogama Digital Type Foundry. Based in Geneva, Switzerland, Michael found his way into the type design industry while he was attending Ecal University. Back in the day, Fontographer was the only font software that was really out there at the time, but after one of his professors introduced him to it, Michael was hooked.
“I was amazed at the technology behind typeface design and how this little program could then command the various letterforms I had created,” Michael explained. He became much more involved in type design as the years progressed and it shaped the course of his entire career.
In the early days of his career as a typographer, he reached out to foundries directly to share his work. When Linotype accepted his fonts as part of their TakeType contest, it solidified Michael’s drive to continue with type design as a profession.
His work revolves around providing solutions to typographic problems that graphic designers face in their own workflows. “A font is a solution to a given need,” Michael said. “If your choice suits that need, then it is an amazing font.”
It also helps that he worked as a graphic designer himself — so he is very familiar with what graphic designers are seeking when they find themselves in search of the perfect font for a given project.
One of Michael’s most recent releases through YouWorkForThem is Gorgonzo, a “creamy new bold typeface” that was designed to create eye-catching headlines and displays.
Warm and bubbly on the surface, Gorgonzo speaks with a buttery-smooth and friendly tone. Inspired by a blend of calligraphic strokes and printed letters, this type design features “soft letters with a little twang.”
Fluid letter structures meld together to create a gorgeously decadent type design that’s beautifully suited to everything from displays and signage to headlines, advertising, logos, product packaging, merchandise, apparel, website designs and banners, marketing materials, social media imagery, and so much more. Gorgonzo is a fantastic choice for branding and identity projects that need a bold yet warm and friendly type design on center stage.
With more than 1,000 glyphs, Gorgonzo is loaded with additional features through OpenType, including standard ligatures, discretionary ligatures, fractions, subscript, superscript, tabular figures, lining figures, proportional figures, oldstyle figures, titling alternates, stylistic alternates, and swashes for incredible versatility.
It extends multilingual support to Basic Latin, Western European, Euro, Baltic, Turkish, Central European, Pan African Latin, Basic Greek, and Basic Cyrillic for graphic design projects intended for an international audience.
Michael Parson currently offers 50 products through YouWorkForThem, including a diverse array of serif, sans serif, script, and ornate display typefaces for designs of all kinds.
