P22 Czech Modernist Set
Foundry: P22 Type Foundry
The type designs of Vojtech Preissig show a great affinity for handcraftsmanship and a distinct attempt to avoid appearing too clean and mechanical. Legend tells how Preissig created hand-cut fonts using a knife in linoleum blocks. This font was based on one such design from 1912 with elements from other "hand-cut" Preissig alphabets incorporated as well. These designs predate the more refined Preissig Roman font of the 1920s, which achieved a modest notoriety for its angular approach to the Roman alphabet.
