Recherche, a unique hand lettered font, began with hundreds of sheets of paper filled with letters rendered with a pointed brush. During the process of refining the font, I realized that it had the potential to be very versatile, transitioning from casual to elegant with the use of over 100 alternate swash letters which include a set of formal capital letters. It is a very fun font to design with as there are so many options (11 different versions of the letter ‘h’ for example), yet even with the flourishing, it still remains a legible script.The word Recherche is of French origin, meaning “sought out with care, of studied refinement or elegance.” It is a word that my friend, Annette, had told me about years ago, when we were in design class together, remarking about how she liked its meaning and sound. This font is dedicated to her.Recherche is well suited for invitations, headlines or a letter to a friend.
