Save The Date: A Four-Style Family With Sweetness And Sophistication - 1

LatinoType has carved out a notable name for itself in the type design industry. Run by Miguel Hernández, Luciano Vergara, and Daniel Hernández, the Chilean type foundry follows a mantra first coined by Pablo Picasso: “Inspiration exists, but it has to find you working.”

And work, they do. Over the years since the foundry’s inception, the trio has worked hard to make it one of the foremost sources of type designs in Latin America; their fonts are being used around the world each and every day. LatinoType’s releases meet the contemporary needs of graphic designers while also carrying a distinctly cultural South American flair in their architectures.

LatinoType’s designs range from traditional to contemporary and include a variety of serifs, sans serifs, display type, and script lettering. While they pride themselves on offering type designs that are versatile for graphic designers, they also recognize the importance of continued education and support for upcoming type designers. To that end, the men who run LatinoType can often be found participating in workshops meant to assist those who have an interest in the field and aiding them in their future successes.

LatinoType often works with type designers throughout Chile and South America, including Paula Nazal Selaive. Born in a small town in southern Chile, Paula studied graphic design in Santiago and Buenos Aires, Argentina. While much of her type design experience was self-taught, she attended calligraphy workshops to further her education and she was also mentored by LatinoType’s own Daniel Hernández. One of their earlier projects together was Trenda, which was released through the LatinoType foundry.

Daniel has a solid background in graphic design, typography, and branding. His work features expert craftsmanship, incredible attention to the finest details, and each of his type designs offers a glimpse into his own personal style and experience living in Latin America.

Paula and Daniel worked together on one of LatinoType’s more recent releases, Save The Date. Comprised of nine fonts, this family perfectly balances sweetness and sophistication through delicate letterforms that are hand-drawn and almost – but not quite – casual. Modern weddings tend to take a slightly less formal and stuffy approach to their planning, allowing the personalities of the soon-to-be-married couple to take center stage. These days, magic and whimsy reign in the wedding industry, and Save The Date is the perfect font family for contemporary wedding invitations, event programs, and save-the-date cards.

This font family offers nine styles and four variations to give graphic designers the most to work with. Sans Light, Sans Regular, and Sans Bold offer capital letters in two styles, and includes fractions, ordinals, superscript, and stylistic alternates. Save The Date Script and Script Bold offer delicate cursive lettering with sweet curls and lovely details, along with case sensitive forms, contextual alternates, discretionary ligatures, standard ligatures, fractions, ordinals, terminal forms, stylistic alternates, and swash.

If you’re looking for something slightly more formal, Serif Light, Serif Regular, and Serif Bold offer all-caps serif lettering with fractions, ordinals, superscript, stylistic alternates, swash, and gorgeously-rendered initial forms. To round out the entire family, Save The Date Small provides designers with elegant sans serif small caps, the perfect complement to any of the family’s other lettersets. It includes fractions, ordinals, and superscript.

Save The Date extends multilingual support to Basic Latin, Western European, Euro, and Pan African Latin languages.

Digital editing for this font series was provided by Rodrigo Fuenzalida and the wedding photography was done by Mónica Muñoz. If you’d like to see more of her work, you can check it out here.
