Embrace Memphis Design Style With Blocks From Memphis - 1

Hello Mart is an online marketplace that offers a number of assets for graphic designers, including art packs and fonts. Featuring the work of select artists, Hello Mart also sells art prints, business card designs, and stationery, along with bags, totes, and pillows in various print designs.

Hello Mart was established by Margaret Penney, a skilled designer and new media artist in her own right. After studying and graduating from both John Hopkins University and Columbia University, where she received an MFA, Margaret has spent well over a decade working in the fields of graphic design, web design, teaching, and writing. She teaches graphic design at Sessions College and also writes about her field for Creative Market, Notes on Design, and Envato.

Over the years, Margaret has worked on projects for major corporations that include MTV, Nike, and Verizon. Her artwork has been on display throughout New York City and at the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London, the Morean Art Center in St. Petersburg, Florida, and the Museo Tamayo in Mexico City. Margaret has also lectured about new media art at the Pratt Institute, Purchase College, and at the School of Visual Arts Annual Conference for Educators.

Long story short, Margaret knows a thing or two about effective and innovative design. She specializes in digital collage, print and package design, branding, and typography. Her experience in the visual arts has given her a keen sense of what works and what doesn’t, which is why her digital art packs are so effective. They provide graphic designers with patterns, colors, and designs that suit an array of project types and themes, all expertly crafted for the needs of a contemporary design market.

One of Hello Mart’s more recent releases through YouWorkForThem is Blocks from Memphis, a contemporary geometric pattern set with Memphis design elements.

“What the heck are Memphis design elements?” We’re glad you asked! Back in the very early 1980s, the Memphis Group was an Italian design and architecture group that largely focused on postmodern furniture, glass, ceramics, and fabrics. Their work carried a lot of abstract and asymmetrical shapes and in December of 1980, they established a design collective named Memphis. Memphis design primarily drew its inspiration from Pop Art and Art Deco, with a little bit of 1950s kitsch and futuristic themes thrown in for good measure. Even though the group dissolved in 1987, their influence marked much of the design aesthetics of not only the 1980s but the 1990s, as well, when colorful geometric designs were all the rage. In 2017, Memphis design began to enjoy a bit of a resurgence in popularity.

Blocks from Memphis recalls that same love for abstract geometric design through 15 seamless patterns in black and white. If you grew up watching “PeeWee’s Playhouse” or “Saved By The Bell,” the shapes found in Blocks from Memphis will feel instantly familiar. The patterns in this collection sum up the essence of late 20th century geometric design and pop culture; Hello Mart really captured the Memphis design style with this digital art pack.

With a total of 97 files, Blocks from Memphis is available in high resolution .png and .jpg files, as well as vector .ai, .pdf, and .eps. The .png files offer transparent backgrounds that make it a snap to layer the patterns over background colors, images, and other design elements. All of the pattern designs are 12×12″ and up, and Blocks from Memphis includes a helpful product Read Me file if you need it.

Blocks from Memphis is well suited for projects of all types, including stationery, notebook and book cover design, apparel, fabric designs, gift wrap, art prints, posters, digital collages, product packaging, invitations and greeting cards, wallpaper, photo layering, and typographic designs.

Hello Mart currently offers 88 products through YouWorkForThem, a variety of digital art packs featuring patterns and design styles to suit a wide variety of graphic design projects.
