Expanded and Better Than Ever: TT Supermolot Neue
TypeType was established in 2013, becoming one of the very first type foundries in St. Petersburg, Russia. Founded by Ivan Gladkikh and Alexander Kudryavtsev, TypeType has worked with a growing number of graphic designers and typographers because collaboration has been one of its keys to success. The foundry is dedicated to crafting type designs that are affordable yet highly versatile and innovative, a task that they achieve with every new font they release.
As a co-founder, Ivan turned his type design hobby into a successful full-time career. Over the years since TypeType was established, he’s played a vital role in its operation and remains active in the field he loves so much. Because the foundry relies heavily on artistic collaboration, it is not uncommon for any given type design to have two or three (or even four) typographers working together to complete the project. Each type design is carefully drawn and thoroughly tested to make sure that graphic designers are getting a high-quality product every time. OpenType features and extensive multilingual support are hallmarks of the foundry’s work, and one of their more recent releases is no exception.
TT Supermolot Neue is a redesigned, enhanced, and extended reinvention of the TT Supermolot and Supermolot Condensed families previously released through TypeType. Designed by Ivan Gladkikh, Nadezhda Polomoshnova, Marina Khodak, Roman Ershov, and the TypeType team, this sans serif font family offers 54 styles for graphic designers to work with.
The original fonts were well received and enjoyed plenty of time in the limelight being used in video games, movies, and branding projects around the world. That said, TypeType admits that TT Supermolot and Supermolot Condensed had a limited composition that “boundaries in their development,” prompting the foundry to revisit the design and expand upon it accordingly.
When it comes to versatility, TT Supermolot Neue is hard to beat. This upgraded reincarnation has added a new subfamily, TT Supermolot Neue Expanded, and offers more than 620 glyphs in each of the family’s 54 individual fonts. The number of weights has increased from five to nine and the architecture of the type design received a complete overhaul of weight distribution to increase the visual harmony between the Condensed, Normal, and Expanded variations. TT Supermolot Neue Normal is narrower than it was previously and its Condensed subfamily became even narrower in tandem.
The upper and lowercase letters in TT Supermolot Neue essentially received a facelift, too, to make it better suited to text usage as well as titling and displays. The italics have been completely redrawn, a process that was particularly labor intensive. “It took us half a year to compensate for all the circles, to transform italic strokes, to work out the position of the diacritics, to make right the spacing, and to finish kerning,” TypeType said.
The work was well worth the effort in the end, however. TT Supermolot Neue is a contemporary geometric sans serif that carries itself with a technologically-driven structure that stands on the edge of the future. Industrial and innovative, TT Supermolot Neue is well-suited everything from displays and signage to headlines, editorials, website designs, body copy, publishing, presentations, corporate communications, white papers, product packaging, product inserts, infographics, and mobile applications. Its range of widths and weights make it ideal for identity and branding projects that require design cohesion across multiple media types and outputs.
TT Supermolot Neue offers a ton of additional flexibility through OpenType features that include contextual alternates, case sensitive forms, numerators, denominators, fractions, discretionary ligatures, standard ligatures, lining figures, oldstyle figures, tabular figures, stylistic alternates, scientific inferiors, and superscript. It also offers two distinctive stylistic sets. The first set gives TT Supermolot Neue a more humanist appearance, while the second set is decidedly more technological in nature.
TT Supermolot Neue extends multilingual support to Basic Latin, Western European, Euro, Baltic, Turkish, Central European, Romanian, Pan African Latin, Latin Ligatures, and Basic Cyrillic for design projects aimed at a global audience.
TT Supermolot Neue is on sale for 86% off of its regular price through February 22, 2019, so it’s a perfect time to add this one to your font collection!
