Established by Jim LePage, Chroma Supply is a studio and online design asset shop that specializes in vivid abstract artistry you can’t find anywhere else. One look at their portfolio and you’ll be hooked — while Chroma Supply’s design assets can be used in a thousand ways and an endless variety of project types, they also stand as unique and individual works of art by themselves.

All of this artistry stems from a man who began his career in graphic design most unexpectedly, although Jim’s path to a creative career is one that really proves you never know when or where inspiration will lead you to exactly where you should be.

After working as a preschool teacher for a number of years, Jim was desperate for a change in career. At the time, he didn’t know what that meant, and he followed his wife’s suggestion of going back to school to learn something new.

Although he had little in the way of artistic experience, he signed up for a graphic design program at a local college. “I was not that kid who was always drawing. Other than playing in a couple bands, I didn’t have much experience creating art,” Jim explained.

In fact, he had never even owned a computer.

While pursuing graphic design hadn’t been on his radar before, he stuck with it. “Fortunately, I was stupid enough to do it and it ended up being something I not only have some talent at, but also enjoy,” Jim told us.

He would later go on to work on design projects that were client-driven, experimenting with abstract art as a means of creative exploration and freedom during his own time. As time went on, however, that endeavor grew to become so much more. After Jim began sharing his abstract digital painting and experimental art, folks started inquiring about licensing his work for their projects — and the rest is history.

Jim established Chroma Supply and the studio has amassed hundreds of products over the years. Its products have been featured on album artwork, branding materials, snowboards, and book covers, and across many different company platforms.

One of our favorite products from Chroma Supply is Tone – Recolored Paint Textures, a collection of 20 abstract paint textures that blend a vintage 70s aesthetic with a modern abstract feel.

Tone – Recolored Paint Textures grew from the vast collection of paintings amassed at the Chroma Supply Studio. For this particular pack, a few of the studio’s favorites were selected from previous collections to receive a meticulous recoloring. The original artworks were stripped back to black and white to be built up through customized colorization, resulting in a dreamy and subdued collection of textures.

Tone – Recolored Paint Textures offers a varied range of both cool and warm tints that could never be attained through the use of physical paint alone. The images in this collection are perfect for design projects of all kinds, including album artwork, book covers, product packaging, merchandise, advertisements, displays, signage, website designs and banners, backgrounds, digital collage, and even text overlays.

The Tone – Recolored Paint Textures pack includes 20 high-resolution .jpg files; sized at 5000x5000px at 300 dpi, making them ideal for print and digital projects. Through Photoshop, you can customize the look and feel of each image by using adjustment layers. Designers can use the paintings at full scale or they can be cropped to bring more focus to the macro details.

In addition to the 20 images, Tone – Recolored Paint Textures offers a set of .abr brushes that were built from the textures themselves so you can easily create your own textured works of art in Photoshop or Affinity!

Chroma Supply currently offers more than 225 products through YouWorkForThem, an incredible variety of mesmerizing design assets for projects of all kinds. Visit their portfolio to take a look at the rest of their work and bookmark it so you can always keep them close at hand!
