Margaret Penney is the graphic designer who established Hello Mart, an online marketplace that features and sells the works of various digital artists, along with digital art packs and other assets for graphic designers.
With more than a decade and a half of experience in graphic design and new media art, Margaret has a well-trained eye for effective design aesthetics and has become a master of her craft.
After graduating with honors from The Johns Hopkins University and receiving her MFA from New York City’s Columbia University, Margaret Penney has gone on to enjoy an illustrious career so far. She teaches graphic design at Sessions College and also writes about her field for Notes on Design, Creative Market, and Envato. Over the years, she’s worked with brands like California Pizza Kitchen, MTV, Nike, Sony Music, Live Nation, Verizon, and Modern Table, just to name a very select few.
As a new media artist, Margaret has had artwork on display throughout New York City and at the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London, the Morean Art Center in St. Petersburg, Florida, and the Museo Tamayo in Mexico City. She’s also given lectures on the subject at the Pratt Institute, Purchase College, and at the School of Visual Arts Annual Conference for Educators.
Margaret specializes in digital collage, new media art, branding, typography, print and package design. Her digital art packs offer designers a variety of patterns and designs to suit an array of different project types and themes.
One of Hello Mart’s more recent releases is Masker, a digital collage pack that enables designers to create collages with photographs or other design elements. Masker includes 14 masks and overlays and six design templates, all in .psd format for Adobe Photoshop.
Masker is a set of geometric and modern mask compositions with editable overlays for adding nuance and visual interest to digital collages. The Masker pack also comes with graphic design templates to pair with the designs, including frames, highlight boxes and type treatments.
Masker is sized at 1080x1080px and has a resolution of 150 dpi, sized specifically for Instagram and social media applications. That said, the images created with Masker can also be used to create illustrative images for print or any other design projects.
Each .psd file is easy to edit and modify through the use of Smart Objects. Just add your source images to the Smart Objects and watch the design transform into a creative collage before your very eyes. From there, you can use the pre-crafted overlays or edit them however you see fit. When the design is ready, export it as your preferred file type.
The graphic design templates also use Smart Objects so it’s simple to plug any .png or .jpg into those files, as well. The text included is also easy to tweak; all fonts used in Masker’s designs are free. (Links are provided to find the fonts online.)
The Masker demo collages are made using work from photographers on Unsplash, however, those images are provided for demonstration purposes only and may not be used for commercial projects.
Hello Mart currently offers 89 products through YouWorkForThem. If you love working with digital art packs, you should definitely go check out the rest of their portfolio and check back often for new updates!
