Eko Setiawan is a multidisciplinary creative master who has worked on design projects through several different media, including graphic design, illustration, identity and branding, UI/UX design, hand lettering, and typography.

While he offers many type designs in an array of styles, Eko also creates design assets for digital photographers and photo editors, offering a number of Adobe Lightroom presets and other tools for post-processing.

Releasing products under his personal brand label, Emyself Design, Eko has crafted a wide variety of type designs, although he has a particular fondness for blackletter type designs.

One of his most recent releases through YouWorkForThem is Washboard, a sharply compressed blackletter type design.

Washboard is not your average or traditional blackletter design — by any stretch. “This font is designed to be sleek, to look minimalist and more modern,” Eko said.

To achieve this, Washboard’s architecture is almost impossibly tall, featuring narrow letterforms that carry blackletter style with a kick. Reminiscent of tattoo designs and ambigrams, this type design draws the eye along each character, presenting a striking work of art in text form.

Washboard’s design does not lend itself to an uncomplicated reading experience: it is best suited for displays, signage, logos, product packaging, apparel, merchandise, headlines, posters, labels, or other applications that feature short blocks of text or singular words.

As an option for branding and identity projects, Washboard will get noticed instantly.

This type design offers fractions, localized forms, ordinals, and superscript through OpenType. It extends multilingual support to Basic Latin, Western European, Euro, Baltic, Turkish, Central European, Romanian, and Pan African Latin languages for designs intended for an international audience.

If you love blackletter fonts, you should check out some of Eko’s other designs, including Fullerton Next, Pink Coast, and Alma Toran.
