In short, where there are fingerprint marks on characters in the regular font, there are unmarked characters in the version font. Similarly, where there are no marks on the regular font, you will find marked characters in the version.
The Fingerprint™ fonts only have fingerprints on the alphabetical characters, numbers, basic accent characters, and some of the punctuation. In the interests of keeping the font file sizes down, and to avoid printing problems for users with testy computer/printer configurations, many of the other special characters do not have fingerprint markings on either the regular or alternate versions.
For Mac users, the Fingerprint™ Version font is linked to the regular font as if it were the bold font. This allows you to automatically mix and match marked and unmarked characters by selecting the character you want to change and then by selecting or deselecting the BOLD style in your layout software. The oblique fonts are also linked in this way so that you can easily use the automatic ITALIC and BOLD ITALIC styles.
For PC users a separate family called Fingerprint Version™ has both the Regular and Oblique version fonts.
If you would like some more substitute grunge characters (based on the same character shapes) to use in conjunction with Fingerprint™, the companion families Deviant Strain™ and Typochondriac™ are also available from the TypeArt Foundry Inc. You can license combinations of these families together at a reduced special rate.
If you are looking for a very clean text face that will work well with Deviant Plain™, you can license the Univers family from Adobe.
FULL CHARACTER SET
Each font in the Fingerprint™ family has a full character set of 232+ letterforms, with all characters designed in the style of the font.
