What Should I Do If Someone Is Using My Designs Without Paying? - 1

Designers–have you ever walked into a store or looked up at a billboard and recognized your font on product packaging or in an ad–but you don’t have any record of a commercial license? Have you ever seen your font or stock art in a television commercial, but you never received your Show Titles licensing fees? How about as the main brand copy on a CD, or a music festival, or a huge social media campaign, but you’ve never been paid?

All of the above are actual examples that YouWorkForThem has encountered recently, whether the designer noticed and brought it to our attention, or we noticed ourselves and brought it to the designer’s attention.

As we all know, IP licensing theft is serious business–and most of the time, it is happening by mistake. In almost every instance above, the guilty parties had no idea they hadn’t licensed the work properly, and wanted nothing more than to come correct and pay what they owed.

So what do you do if you find your IP being used for Show Titles or Large Volume Commercial use, and you haven’t received the licensing fees? The answer is simple: Contact Us and let us know!

YouWorkForThem has experience tracking down and collecting unpaid licensing fees, and we’re happy to help you do the same. We’ll figure out the responsible parties and contact them, negotiate the terms, invoice them, and collect the licensing fees–and the commercial clients can go on using the work with the proper license extensions in place.

Here’s what a couple of our recent success stories had to say:

“I’ve worked with YWFT on a number of larger corporate licensing projects. The whole process is smooth and easy…mainly because they handle everything! They’re experts at putting together packages that meet a client’s needs and budget while still being very profitable. On more than one occasion they’ve noticed my fonts being used without proper licensing, contacted the companies, and secured licensing from them. I can’t say enough about partnering with YWFT.”

“We happened to stumble across one of our script fonts being used in multiple commercials for a campaign, which we suspected was being broadcasted and used in-store. The amount of views on YouTube alone exceeded the 250,000 instance limit for a standard license. Even though it was our best selling font, we had yet to license it for a Large Volume Commercial license. We contacted YWFT and asked if they could look into it for us. We were very pleased with how YWFT handled the situation, resolving the breach and securing the unpaid license agreement. If you are aware of your fonts being used without the correct license, we highly recommend you speak the team over at YWFT.”
