A Stencil Design With Contemporary Styling And Fantastic Legibility: Acherus Militant - 1 A Stencil Design With Contemporary Styling And Fantastic Legibility: Acherus Militant - 2

Horizon Type is a relatively new foundry at YouWorkForThem. Its latest release is Acherus Militant, a stencil version of its previous release, Acherus Grotesque. Both type designs were created by Ufuk Aracioglu. He told us that while he always finds stencil fonts interesting, he also intends to adapt the Acherus family to include as many fields as he is able.

“Initially, I was thinking of building a single stencil style,” Aracioglu said, but he felt that having multiple stencil styles would be more suitable for its users. “When I decided to create more than one style, the workload doubled. This led to the Militant coming out three months late.”

Regardless of the resulting delay in its release, it’s clear that Acherus Militant was thoroughly designed and well worth the wait. Contemporary and efficient, Acherus Militant is sleek and highly legible in small point — a particularly unusual feature of stencil fonts. Its geometric letterforms are imbued with an underlying tenor of stylishness, striking a harmonious balance with Aracioglu’s desire to create a version that was harder, sportier, and more aggressive than its predecessor.

Eight weights are available in three styles each for a total of 24 character sets, a variety which offers designers extensive flexibility in their work. Acherus Militant is appropriate for an exceedingly wide range of projects, including headlines, fashion spreads, advertising layouts, web and mobile content, product packaging, branding, and identity.

Acherus Militant comes fully armed with case sensitive forms, fractions, scientific inferiors, superscript, standard ligatures, and tabular figures. Its multilingual support is quite extensive, including Basic Latin, Western European, Euro, Catalan, Baltic, Turkish, Central European, Romanian, Pan African Latin, Dutch, Afrikaans, and Basic Greek for worldwide accessibility.

In keeping with his plans to further build upon the Acherus family, Aracioglu told us, “I am currently working on a new soft sans serif.” He is also creating a sharper variation, as well. “My favorite part of the design process is the part where I finish the font,” Aracioglu said with a smile, adding that it’s “very enjoyable to see the font in different colors afterwards.”

Acherus Militant is on sale for 75% off of its regular price through January 31, 2017, so it’s a great time to add this one to your font arsenal!
