Happily living in sunny Greece, Irene Demetri is a graphic designer and working mother of twin girls. “Since I finished school, I knew I wanted to go ahead and study something arts-related, so that ended up being graphic design,” Irene told us. “I took an MA at Visual Communication Design and then ended up working as a web designer for many years.”
Lately, Irene has focused on creating patterns full time, a task she is absolutely passionate about. One of her latest releases is Ink Patterns, a vector pack that digitally explores the realism of ink splatters.
“During my first year of creating patterns I wanted to challenge myself by creating a set of patterns away from the screen. So I chose to work with ink,” Irene explained. Ink Patterns is a set of 40 seamless, high resolution ink designs and Irene got her hands dirty — quite literally — during the creation process.
“I didn’t realize how much mess I could make creating these patterns, but I did enjoy the process and the outcome,” she said. Her handcrafted process adds an undeniable element of authenticity to the finished product, although Irene told us that digitizing the shapes without losing the natural ink effect was a bit of a challenge.
Her finished work is an absolutely gorgeous collection of splatters, splashes, brushstrokes, drops, and drips that mimic the sensation of real ink on a designer’s digital canvas. Ink Patterns includes 10 Brush Stroke vector patterns, 10 Drips vector patterns, 10 Drops and Dots vector patterns, and 10 Splashes vector patterns for a total of 40 ink variants to choose from. In addition to the vector EPS files, Ink Patterns also includes 40 JPG and 40 transparent PNG files to ensure ample accessibility through multiple graphics programs.

“I am working on some new hand-drawn, handmade sets that are necessary for every designer as tools that anyone should have in their archive,” Irene told us.
