JAM Type Design is a digital type foundry established by João Symington, a graphic designer and typographer who is absolutely passionate about his work. Based in the picturesque city of Dubai, United Arab Emirates, JAM Type Design is dedicated to producing “fonts that are effective, beautiful and full of character.”
João’s approach to his work is intricately structured, focusing on a fluid and proven methodology that takes him from initial concept to finished product without losing any of the project’s momentum along the way. With a strong background in creative direction, advertising, branding, and packaging, his foundation is solid and it’s led to his foundry’s continued success ever since its inception.
If there’s one thing João understands about the business of typography, it’s the importance of a dependable work ethic paired with a willingness to learn as much as possible while applying that knowledge freely. Being well-rounded in any field is vital to success, but João feels it’s even more important in typography if one wants to compete – and be successful – in a global market.
While JAM offers bespoke type designs for private clients, it also offers a number of commercial fonts for graphic designers to use in their own projects. One of its more recent releases is João’s own namesake serif, JT Symington. Reminiscent of newspaper type from the days of yore, JT Symington was inspired by the traditional serif typefaces of the 20th century. Beautifully defined serifs add a classic style to this updated digital family, offering strength and elegance through every letter.
JT Symington was designed for sophistication and legibility, making it especially perfect for projects that feature very long passages of text. Available in Regular and Bold, with corresponding italics for each, it’s well suited to a variety of design projects including headlines, editorials, body text, publishing, website design, and corporate correspondence. It’s a professional looking option for program and event designs, as well, and it will add a classic charm to formal invitations.
Packed with additional features, JT Symington offers capitals to small caps, fractions, numerators, denominators, standard ligatures, and small caps for extra flexibility. Its multilingual support extends to Basic Latin, Western European, Euro, Baltic, Turkish, Central European, Romanian, and Pan African Latin languages for global accessibility.
