Pockota: A Soft Retro-Style Display Serif From Nasir Udin
Nasir Udin is an independent illustrator, graphic designer, and type designer based in Bali. Nasir has a particular fondness for design elements that favor a retro style and he regularly designs travel posters under the Vectro label. His illustrative style is an impression of similar posters from the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s.
As a designer, he enjoys seeing what happens when “retro style blends with a futuristic concept” so much of his work takes elements of past eras and blends them with those of future decades, which allows his work to seamlessly incorporate vintage and modern aesthetics.
One of his most recent releases through YouWorkForThem is Pockota, a soft display serif with a subtle, 70s retro spin. With rounded edges and gentle curves, Pockota carries itself with a friendly demeanor, conveying every message with warmth and confidence.
This type family recalls the classic style elements of Cooper, updated for contemporary design applications through ample OpenType features. Pockota is available in Light, Regular, Medium, Bold, ExtraBold, and Black, with corresponding italics for each.
The range of weights offered in this family makes it well suited to everything from displays and signage to headlines, subheadings, editorial use, publishing, logo design, product packaging, merchandise, apparel, website designs, marketing materials, and mobile applications. It’s also perfect for branding and identity projects that require fluid design cohesion across multiple media types and sizes.
Pockota offers a variety of OpenType features that include contextual alternates, case sensitive forms, discretionary ligatures, standard ligatures, discretionary ligatures, fractions, localized forms, historical forms, ordinals, subscript, superscript, scientific inferiors, oldstyle figures, stylistic alternates, and swash.
Pockota extends multilingual support to Basic Latin, Western European, Euro, Catalan, Baltic, Turkish, Central European, Romanian, Pan African Latin, Dutch, Afrikaans, Latin Ligatures, Igbo Onwu, and Basic Greek for design projects intended for an international audience.
