Originally begun as a side studio of LatinoType, Los Andes Type is now its own standalone foundry. Much of Los Andes Type’s releases are rooted in inspiration found through travel and nature, with an added personal touch from each of the typographers the foundry works with. Individuality is a key component of their work, allowing the life experiences and world views of its designers to shine through.

Luciano Vergara works through both LatinoType and Los Andes Type. Luciano is an incredibly experienced typographer and designer, having his work featured in Tipos Latinos more than once. Some of his more notable type designs include Niemeyer, Pantano Pro, and Estandar, and he’s enjoyed a considerable amount of success in his chosen field.

A founding partner of LatinoType, Luciano regularly works on projects through Los Andes Type, like one of the foundry’s more recent releases, Darwin Rounded. The “resequel” to DarwinDarwin Rounded carries with it the base architecture of its predecessor while embracing the softer side of life. Where Darwin features sharper edges and corners, Darwin Rounded is “a friendly looking typeface,” one that speaks in warmer tones and with even greater approachability.

This fresh member of the Darwin family features updated language support for greater versatility. Darwin Rounded is comprised of three subfamilies that include Darwin Rounded Pro, Darwin Rounded Essential, and Darwin Rounded Alt Essential. Each member is available in Thin, ExtraLight, Light, Regular, SemiBold, Bold, and Black, with corresponding italics for each, totaling 42 letter sets in all.

The range of weights and styles in Darwin Rounded makes it well suited to displays, signage, headlines, editorials, web copy, corporate communications, publishing (digital and print), presentations, white papers, infographics, logos, product packaging and inserts, advertising, and posters. With so many options on hand, it’s ideal for identity and branding projects that require design cohesion across multiple media types.

Darwin Rounded Essential and Darwin Rounded Alt Essential both offer fractions and extend multilingual support to Basic Latin, Western European, Euro, and Pan African Latin languages.

If you’re looking for the most flexibility, Darwin Rounded Pro carries the greatest number of OpenType features, which include case sensitive forms, numerators, denominators, fractions, superscript, scientific inferiors, oldstyle figures, tabular figures, and stylistic alternates. It also offers the most in terms of multilingual support, covering Basic Latin, Western European, Euro, Catalan, Baltic, Turkish, Central European, Romanian, Pan African Latin, Dutch, Afrikaans, and Igbo Onwu for better global accessibility in international design projects.

Los Andes Type currently offers 30 products through YouWorkForThem, providing a range of sans serifs, scripts, and display fonts for a variety of project types and themes.
