Los Andes Type was born as a secondary studio venture that emerged from LatinoType, the first digital type foundry established in Chile in 2007. Founded by Daniel Hernández, Miguel Hernández, and Luciano Vergara, LatinoType offers an incredibly wide variety of type designs in a range of styles.
While Los Andes Type was initially a subsidiary studio under LatinoType beginning in 2011, it would later become its own separate foundry. The idea behind Los Andes Type was to create a collection of type designs that weave a visual story of sorts, inspired by the life and nature of its native South America.
The type designs crafted by Los Andes Type draw upon the unique experiences of each designer, aiming to provide typefaces that are expressive, original, and highly versatile in a designer’s workspace. Each character set carries a distinctive personality, a result of the individuality of the type designer who brought it to life.
One of Los Andes Type’s most recent releases is Neogrotesk, designed by Luciano Vergara. Neogrotesk is a clean and modern sans serif whose architecture embraces a minimalist Swiss style. It offers little in the way of unnecessary flourish or ornamentation, preferring to get straight to the point through a precise design concept.
Neogrotesk speaks with clarity and conciseness, with an unbiased and level-headed voice that conveys every message with confidence and poise. This is a workhorse type design that carries the Latin flavor Los Andes Type is known for.
Neogrotesk is comprised of four subfamilies: Essential, Essential Alt, Pro, and Small Caps. Each subfamily is available in UltraLight, Light, Regular, Bold, and Black, with corresponding italics for each.
The range of styles and weights in the Neogrotesk family make it beautifully suited to just about any design project you can imagine, including headlines, subheadings, editorials, body copy, website designs, print and publishing applications, logos, product packaging and informational inserts, merchandise, apparel, letterhead, corporate communications, infographics, white papers, marketing materials, and mobile applications. Neogrotesk is a fantastic choice for branding and identity projects that require fluid design cohesion across multiple media outputs.
Neogrotesk Essential and Essential Alt offer case sensitive forms, ordinals, and fractions, and extend multilingual support to Basic Latin, Western European, Euro, and Pan African Latin.
If you’re looking for greater versatility, Neogrotesk Pro offers a much wider range of OpenType features that include capitals to small caps, case sensitive forms, fractions, discretionary ligatures, standard ligatures, ordinals, scientific inferiors, subscript, superscript, oldstyle figures, tabular figures, small caps, and stylistic alternates. Neogrotesk Pro extends multilingual support to Basic Latin, Western European, Euro, Catalan, Baltic, Turkish, Central European, Romanian, Pan African Latin, Dutch, and Afrikaans for exceptionally far-reaching global accessibility.
Neogrotesk Small Caps offers the same multilingual support as Pro, and the same OpenType features with exception to standard ligatures and oldstyle figures.
