Our childhoods have a way of leaving a lasting impact on the adults we become and often, they also leave their marks on the careers we eventually pursue. Yinon Ezra is a graphic designer and typographer who was exposed to art from a very young age. His mother was an artist and painter; Yinon spent many a day in her home art studio as a child.
From those early days creating his own works of art, Yinon grew to accept art as more than just an enjoyable hobby; it was a way of life. That creative outlet made a profound impact on not only his career but his brother’s, as well. Yinon’s older brother, Nadav, went into type design years before Yinon ever really took an interest in it. In fact, Nadav runs the largest type foundry in Israel and he’s been working in the field for almost three decades.
Once Yinon discovered a passion for type design, he jumped into the field with both feet. Visual communication is of particular interest to Yinon, especially when it comes to Hebrew design. Growing up near Tel Aviv, Hebrew fonts play a vital role in graphic design and Yinon does his best to incorporate elements of Hebrew design with those of Latin type.
He’s become somewhat of a master in Hebrew font design, spending his time designing Hebrew fonts but also taking the time to educate others in their design, as well. He’s conducted workshops for Glyphs on the subject of designing Hebrew fonts, and he divides his own design time between crafting Hebrew and Latin fonts.
One of his more recent releases through YouWorkForThem is YE Margarita, a display serif type design with a strong, assertive architecture.
