Fadhl Waliy Haqq is a type designer and calligrapher based in Indonesia. He grew up in Surakarta, where he developed a love for lettering pretty early on in his childhood. It wasn’t until he grew to be an adult, however, that he made the decision to pursue type design as a full-time career.

Fadhl is a self-taught type designer who is particularly drawn to handprinted signage and vintage lettering styles. He finds that these types of letter sets carry a lot of personality and that’s something he strives to achieve in his own work. He begins with sketches on paper, later scanning the letterforms into the computer to vectorize them before programming additional features as well as alternate and special characters for greater versatility.

Fadhl established his personal foundry label, Akufadhl, as a portfolio for his varied type designs. It also gives him the ability to explore type design entirely on his own terms, feeding his creativity while opening doors to create letter sets that graphic designers around the world can use in a wide variety of projects.

One of his most recent releases through YouWorkForThem is Generisch Sans, an “old-style” sans serif designed for long-form text and a comfortable reading experience that’s easy on the eyes. Generisch Sans is simple in its architecture at first glance, but a closer look and elegant curves emerge, particularly in its ligatures.

This contemporary sans serif provides excellent legibility even in small point, making it a perfect choice for design projects on a small scale, including business cards, labels, tags, and fine print. Generisch Sans is beautiful in long-form publishing applications, both in print and on the screen.

Generisch Sans is available in Thin, Light, Book, Regular, SemiBold, and bold, with slanted variations for each. This range of weights makes it well-suited to signage, displays, logos, product packaging and informational inserts, advertising, letterhead, corporate communications, white papers, infographics, presentations, publishing, headlines, editorials, website designs, and mobile applications.

Generisch Sans offers several features through OpenType, including discretionary ligatures, standard ligatures, fractions, oldstyle figures, contextual alternates, and stylistic alternates for more versatility. It extends multilingual support to Basic Latin, Western European, Euro, Baltic, Turkish, Central European, Romanian, Pan African Latin, and Basic Cyrillic for exceptional accessibility in designs aimed at an international audience.

Akufadhl currently offers 14 products through YouWorkForThem, including a range of gorgeous scripts, sans serifs, serifs, and display typefaces for a variety of design projects. Visit his portfolio to take a look at the rest of his work and bookmark it so you can check back for new releases!
