Based in Salt Lake City, Connary Fagen is a typographer and multidisciplinary designer who has worked in nearly every aspect of visual design, including web and graphic design, art direction, motion graphics, branding, identity, and illustration.
While he has released a number of type designs since launching his first retail type design in 2014, he continues to work on communicative visual design projects that include illustration and custom lettering, album cover design, film posters, book covers and jackets, restaurant menu design, packaging and print design projects for private clientele.
Connary initially found an interest in typography while he was working as a full-time graphic designer. Most graphic designers can relate to the struggle that comes with finding the “perfect” font for a project, and his solution was to roll up his sleeves and just make it himself.
In the beginning, his type designs served his personal font library only, until he began releasing them into the retail font market. After receiving positive responses to his work, he stayed with the endeavor and eventually built an incredibly versatile and popular body of work.
Connary Fagen’s work has seen a lot of success, a reflection of his design style and his attention to detail. Every type design he releases undergoes rigorous testing prior to its release. Even after a font is released, Connary revisits his work to expand upon its design or to add more versatility and language accessibility. Every update he makes to his work is available for free to those who have purchased his designs, ensuring that designers have access to every upgrade that’s been made.
Connary’s work finds value in contemporary trends, yet it seeks to remain relevant as those trends ebb and flow. His work consistently manages to achieve a timeless quality that never goes out of style, providing type designs that will look good now and twenty years from now. He designs character sets that are exactly what he would use in his own projects, beginning with pen and paper sketches to focus on the essential components of a design and working on the additional weights and digital aspects of the design later on.
One of his most recent releases is Ellograph CF, a softly-rounded monospace sans serif that speaks in a friendly, approachable tone. Ellograph CF offers a generous x-height and short descenders, creating even lines of text that flow effortlessly across the page. It conveys every message with clarity and warmth, a softer variant on the traditional coding-style font.
Ellograph CF is gorgeous when used as a programming font, yet it works beautifully in other applications, as well. Available in Thin, Extra Light, Light, Regular, Demi Bold, Bold, Extra Bold, and Heavy, Ellograph CF features cursive italics for each weight, giving designers a lot to work with in terms of versatility. This type family shines in displays and signage, logo designs, website text and banners, headlines, subheadings, body copy, product packaging, merchandise, apparel, branding and identity projects, marketing materials, menu designs, and mobile applications.
Ellograph CF offers additional versatility through OpenType, including fractions, localized forms, standard ligatures, superscript, vertical alts, and stylistic alternates. It extends multilingual support to Basic Latin, Western European, Euro, Catalan, Baltic, Turkish, Central European, Romanian, Pan African Latin, Dutch, Basic Greek, and Basic Cyrillic for exceptionally far-reaching global accessibility.
