Established in 2015, True Grit Texture Supply was founded by Kindred Studio designer Andrew Fairclough as a resource dedicated to providing realistic digital textures steeped in nostalgia.
Andrew “misspent” part of his youth seeking a degree in business, only to later spend time designing “skate and snowboard graphics in between bouts of self-instruction and full time work in a design agency.”
He built True Grit Texture Supply after sharing some of his own textures in the online design courses he taught. When some of his students asked about the availability of his textures, Andrew considered making those available for retail purchase and the rest is history.
Much of Andrew’s own work is inspired by midcentury design elements that include spot illustrations, degraded print, comics, and vintage sci-fi, along with surrealism and DIY art culture. His design style is a natural fit for his work through True Grit Texture Supply, which provides effects, brushes, textures, and add-ons for Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and Procreate.
True Grit Texture Supply makes it easy for graphic designers to incorporate realistic distressing, grain, halftones, and more, particularly in design projects with a decidedly midcentury spin.
One of our favorite products from True Grit Texture Supply is Lithotone Brushes for Procreate.
This is a streamlined sister version of Lithotone Distressed Pattern Brushes for Photoshop designed to work specifically with Procreate, “the most powerful and intuitive digital illustration app available for iPad.” First launched in 2011, Procreate has increasingly grown in popularity over the years, becoming a favorite tool for novice and professional graphic designers alike.
Lithotone Brushes for Procreate will take you on “a digital trip back to the 70s when Letraset dry-transfer pattern stencils were the tool of choice for zine makers and lo-fi artists everywhere.” This toolkit features a variety of distressed pattern textures and brush presets that “will have you painting a diverse range of patterns faster than you can say ‘I am the shroom, the shroom is me!’”
Lithotone Brushes for Procreate includes classic textures like noise, donut sprinkles, geometrics, and sneaker crackle, along with fabrics, splatter, and brush strokes that repeat endlessly for seamless application into any digital artwork or design project.
Lighter than its older sibling, Lithotone Brushes for Procreate includes 62 lightly distressed pattern brushes and 24 shader brushes that darken in response to increasing stylus pressure. This design asset offers a wide variety of more than 60 textures that include TV static, geometrics, op-art, linework, stars, wood grain, brick, pointillism, plaid, houndstooth, and more.
This toolkit for Procreate is an ideal way to create immediate and realistic textures in logos, advertising, marketing materials, product packaging, merchandise, apparel, decor projects, website designs, posters, publishing applications, album artwork, stationery and greeting cards, digital illustrations and collages, comic book illustrations, and even social media imagery.
While Lithotone Brushes for Procreate are recommended everyone from novice to expert Procreate users, this product includes easy-to-follow instructions for desktop or direct download to your iPad. All brushes are named in a way that makes it easy to find the perfect pattern every time.
True Grit Texture Supply recommends using an iPad Pro First Get or higher with an Apple Pencil or other compatible stylus. Lithotone Brushes for Procreate will work with Procreate version 4.0 or higher on iOS version 11 or higher. Forty-five megabytes of available iPad storage space is needed for this toolkit.
True Grit Texture Supply currently offers 26 products through YouWorkForThem, an impressive array of distressed and realistic texturing tools. Visit their portfolio to take a look at the rest of their products and bookmark it so you can check back for future additions!
