According to designer Ramandhani Nugraha, Boldie Slab is what might happen if “…the old west and the 70s had a lovechild.” That’s correct.

What is it about the 70s and the old west that makes this blend so appealing? Is it because our understanding of the “old west” is so heavily influenced by Hollywood or Italian westerns, films we had so much fun watching? Is it the light goofiness of 1970s television, when cartoons were definitively cartoons and sitcoms were so sweet and easy to consume? Or is it the loosening up, the transition from thin to fat with ever-wider neckties and clunky heels, chunky 8-track tapes, and massive land yachts floating down the road, those cumulus clouds on wheels that called themselves cars? Is it the sense of a lost dream, an era that suggested one could indulge in endless hedonism and never receive a bill?

In any event, Boldie Slab brings it all together in a fat, optimistic font that evokes fun and laughter, candy Valentine hearts, lazy cartoon Saturdays, and the start of summer vacation. It’s excellent for posters, branding, headlines, logos, packaging, websites, and more. It melds well with bright primary colors and bold concepts, and its density emits a power and confidence beneath its lighter expressions.

Also please consider its multilingual emanations. Here is the potential for some very interesting cultural and visual juxtapositions, as Boldie’s hint of the old west strikes a mildly dissonant note beneath diacritical marks. This allusion lends a subtle Americana to typographical images more directly evoking Swedish modern or the Czech avant-garde. It is these slight suggestions of mild opposition that open the door to distinction. Try Boldie Slab in all its emanations. Look at the characters and the alternates closely, and also consider how mixing colors within words effects your message’s emotional tone. You will see that Boldie Slab’s fun character also has a powerful voice.

Boldie Slab from Ramandhani Nugraha. An excellent creation from an excellent artist. If you contemplate Nugraha’s entire collection, you will note the individuality inherent to each font. Consider for example Beast SVG, and how its kinetic street flair contrasts with Boldie’s staid confidence. This diversity in output is the mark of a true artist, a creative explorer and thinker, and we are pleased to present the entire collection.
