Wait, you’re telling me the guy that designed this font Espíritu is the same guy that designed the cover art for this hard rocking band? Okay, I guess we’re done here.

But wait, this guy is this guy? The mastermind behind all those mind-blowing illustrations? Fair enough, addendum added.

And oh yeah, Main Man Maire occasionally flips his cap around so the brim doesn’t tap the mic or impede the suave, then he enters the sound booth and becomes this guy, his self-proclaimed “alter ego.”

There are additional exhibits available that clearly indicate Maire is indeed the aforementioned couple of people. For instance, it would be an astounding coincidence if the gentleman here was not the typographer we’re presently discussing, especially as the banner behind him says “Espíritu.”

Hence: “Agustín Pizarro Maire is a graphic designer, lyricist and illustrator born and based in Buenos Aires, Argentina.” In other words he’s a rock star and an artist. Indigenously so—he’s not one of those rock stars that started painting long after they were already famous, he’s just a dude that makes fonts, songs, and great art with the same easy cool he uses when he flips that hat around and lays down a track.

Here’s even more stuff: MORE STUFF. Taken together, you see a pretty rad lifestyle taking shape: art, rock and roll, hanging out in front of gorgeous vistas, having a cocktail, putting the pedal to the metal. Hanging out in Bohemian cafes late at night…maybe even jumping on stage for a quick musical trip to New Jersey to see a million faces and rock them all.

So before we loop back to Espíritu, which the guy clearly has a lot of, let’s put out the inquiry: how come it’s hard to find more examples of Agustín Pizarro Maire singing? In the example above, Maire doesn’t chime in until Verse 2, and when he does, that high-powered rasp does serious justice to the original work. It’s clear that particular vocal has happened before, many times, probably in a convertible racing across some desert at the speed of sound. Please, more songs!!!

Espíritu the font encapsulates all of the above in many respects: cool, authentic, sporting, risk-taking, wild, hard rocking, fun, down-to-earth. As its creator states, Espíritu “seeks for a free spirit, one that is imperfect and unpretentious. With its soul deeply rooted in wanderlust, just enjoying the journey, like an endless road trip…To all the wild spirits out there, meet Espíritu, join the ride.”

Espíritu—that’s art reflecting a lifestyle, a life, a good disposition, loving possibility and the unknown future. Rock on, Agustín Pizarro Maire. You’re cool and we like you. Thank you for imbuing a little bit of your spirit into our day. It’s better already. We have joined the ride.
