Jim LePage is a graphic designer and abstract artist who made his way into the industry in a way that was less than typical for most creative people. He had worked as a preschool teacher for several years, but eventually found himself longing for a career change in 2003, although he didn’t have any idea what that might be at the time.
His wife made the suggestion that he should go back to school for something new, so Jim enrolled in a graphic design program at college nearby. “I was not that kid who was always drawing. Other than playing in a couple bands, I didn’t have much experience creating art,” Jim told us. Up until that point, he had never even owned a computer.
Going to school for graphic design was not really what anyone would have likely considered as something he would do, having no real background in art to begin with. “Fortunately, I was stupid enough to do it and it ended up being something I not only have some talent at, but also enjoy,” Jim said.
He worked in graphic design after college, but in 2012, he began experimenting with abstract painting. That endeavor unexpectedly changed the entire course of his artistic career.
“My background and training is in graphic design where projects are steered by the needs and goals of a client,” he explained. “With my personal abstract work, I get to explore, free from any rules or client needs. It’s been a great opportunity to do a lot of experimentation and discover my own aesthetic preferences.”
Abstract art is a particularly magical genre because every person who looks upon a finished piece is going to see something a little different: it can mean anything to anyone. As an artist, its especially freeing because there are no established rules to adhere to, and no expectations. The artist simply… creates.
Jim went on to establish Chroma Supply, a studio and online marketplace that specializes in abstract artistry and design assets. All of their products are mesmerizing in their own unique ways and while they can be incorporated into any graphic design project, they stand as artwork all on their own.
One of Chroma Supply’s most recent releases is Fluid Lines Texture Bundle, a massive collection of hypnotic lines that undulate together to create fluid textures. This series is comprised of still life abstract imagery that captures waves of motion in suspended animation.
Featuring a varied range of complementary hues as well as monochrome black and white, Fluid Lines Texture Bundle is a gorgeous design asset to have on hand for projects of all kinds, including album artwork, book covers, product packaging, marketing materials, backgrounds, website designs and mobile applications, posters, decor projects, gift wrap, digital art collage, and even text overlays. You can use these images at full size or crop them to bring the focus to the macro details for icons, banners, buttons, or social media imagery.
Fluid Lines Texture Bundle contains a total of 90 high-resolution files (5000x5000px, 300dpi) in .jpg format, making it perfectly suited to both print and digital applications. It offers 45 unique pieces in full color along with those same 45 pieces in black and white variations. All three of Chroma Supply’s popular 3D line texture packs are included in this collection: Swerve, Surge, and Sweep.
This bundle also includes three Variant Builder .psd files that enable designers to customize the feel of each texture to achieve a multitude of different looks through the use of pre-built adjustments. These adjustments are live filters and effects, although you can fine-tune them as needed for your projects or to create your own custom adjustments.
Like many of Chroma Supply’s other products, Fluid Lines Texture Bundle also includes three sets of .abr brushes that were made from the textures in this collection so you can create your own custom textures and designs in Adobe Photoshop or Affinity.
Chroma Supply currently offers more than 160 products through YouWorkForThem. If you love working with abstract design assets, head over to their portfolio to check out the rest of their work and bookmark it so you can check back for new releases in the future!
