Straight outta sunny California, Ben Balvanz’s (Fontalicious) vector images live somewhere between a lustful pop aesthetic and clip-art reminiscent of Facebook stickers, resulting in an appealing style that somehow manages to be both cute and powerful.

One of our favorite vector image sets by Balvanz, Hipster, is a perfect representation of this mix of styles. From Parliament Light cigarettes and Pabst Blue Ribbon beer to “fixie” bicycles, he captures his subject matter beautifully–Facebook would be well advised to stop by the YouWorkForThem store when the time comes to choose a new sticker set for the Spring!

The college-party inspired typeface Spring Break is equal parts bold and beautiful, and shows off this artist’s mastery of a uniquely evocative aesthetic. Balvanz’s samples show off just how well a good color palette serves to make the font pop off from the background, creating a cohesive image with eye-attracting text.

And of course, no coverage of Balvanz would be complete without his best-selling Neon Lights handset type design which manages to not only produce interesting shapes and lines in perfect representation of neon signs, but even emulates their structural necessity, in that all the letters must be connected into one long pipe, via a cursive-style shadow that lingers behind each letter.

We simply cannot wait to see what Balvanz comes out with next.
