Tips for Selling Your Fonts / Graphics / Videos / Photos - 1

If you’re a creative person with new, fresh ideas and are thinking about selling your fonts, graphics, videos or photos, here are a few guidelines that can help you be successful. Overall, DO SOMETHING UNIQUE! We’re always looking for high quality, innovative, fresh ideas. We want to break new ground, and release more explorative products.

Fonts

Create a desirable, usable, innovative new typeface, and try to make it unique as possible. Start by researching what’s new in fonts and qualities that make certain fonts successful. Then see how you can make something that incorporates those qualities, while forging its own path. Remember to also keep usability at the forefront.

Graphics

To be successful, graphics must be engaging. Unique textures beyond the usual paper, wood and metal can be successful. Any graphic that invokes a feeling of realism can find an audience. Other qualities that make graphics stand out include exceptional backgrounds, icons and frames, ink and paint splatters, stylized design elements and scrolls.

Photos

Use editing software for touch-ups to stylize your work some, but don’t overdo it. Try and get as close as you can with the camera. Don’t submit/upload photos that are significantly alike. Variety is key. Be sure your photos are commercially practical. Don’t show visible logos or trademarks, and be sure you have releases from models. Expect to get a few rejections when you first get started working with models. But take heart. You can learn from your mistakes.

Videos

Consider your expertise. Loops of abstract motion are always useful. Consider how humor can be used. Be original. Unique vantage points, creative shots, color correction that is other worldly or innovative, and even mistakes and glitches can create interesting, usable products. Think about the video content you see every day–how can you make something that would work better?

Other Considerations and Warnings

  • Build up your inventory! It’s a numbers game, and quantity makes a difference. Your odds of a sale are considerably greater when you have a few hundred products available.
  • Ensure that your designs are adaptable and easily used in many different situations.
  • When tagging your products, use keywords that make sense and are the most likely to be searched for. Think like the customer. If you were searching for particular images, would you find your image tagged with that keyword relevant or out of place?
  • Be patient and don’t give up. By sticking to your goals, you’ll have a better chance of being successful.
