Weekly: A Slab Serif With Sans Ambition - 1

Established in 2011 as a subsidiary design studio of LatinoType, Los Andes Type is now a standalone type foundry in Concepción, Chile. Their typefaces tell stories with inspiration found in nature and travel, combined with the designers’ personal tastes and experiences. With the recent addition of new designers, Los Andes Type has developed a brand new identity while continuing to offer fresh and innovative products held to the highest quality and design standards.

One of their most recent releases is Weekly, “a slab serif that wants to be a sans.” Designed by Jorge Cisterna, an imaginative and resourceful graphic designer, Weekly was designed to have the architecture of a slab serif, yet perform equally well in applications that would typically call for a sans serif type design.

Based on fonts with more humanist proportions, Weekly strikes the ideal balance between slab serif and sans, its heavier weights featuring thick serifs that evoke the powerful and chiseled characteristics of Egyptian slab serifs. This makes Weekly a strong choice for large displays, posters, product packaging, book covers, headlines, and any design that needs to make a pronounced statement.

Weekly’s lighter weights are well suited to editorials, print and digital publishing, presentations, corporate communications, infographics, product packaging, web content and design, and due to its excellent legibility in small point, mobile applications and UI/UX design.

Weekly is a powerhouse family of 60 fonts in various weights and widths, making it a great option for branding and identity projects that need cohesion through multiple media. It offers case sensitive forms, ordinals, fractions, and standard ligatures, and its multilingual support extends to Basic Latin, Western European, Euro, Catalan, Baltic, Turkish, Central European, Romanian, Pan African Latin, Dutch, and Afrikaans for global accessibility.
