Born in England and currently residing in Asia, Ellen Luff is a multidisciplinary creator who is passionate about design and all it entails. World travel is a source of never-ending inspiration for Ellen; she craves adventure and those experiences feed her creativity.

A self-professed “type dork,” Ellen quit her job in advertising to pursue life on her own terms and focus on type design full time. “I’ve got a head full of ideas and hands desperate to make, designing anything and everything,” she said. “My passion is turning what I see into typography, photography and travel writing. A design translator if you will.”

Ellen feels that she was “born to get my hands dirty crafting and creating,” and her passion for her craft is unmatched by most. She is a driven photographer, typographer, art director, copywriter, and travel writer who holds onto a “burning belief that good design matters.”

One of her most recent releases through YouWorkForThem is Brixton Pressed, a bold hand-printed type family that “celebrates the original letterpress style and all its beautiful imperfections.”

Brixton Pressed in a powerful all-caps sans serif with a bold architecture that gets noticed wherever it roams. With a tall and somewhat condensed presentation, this type family makes the most of horizontal space. It speaks with confidence and authenticity, conveying every message with strength and resilience.

Brixton Pressed is offered in two distinct SVG letterpress styles.

Brixton Pressed Wood carries a rough texture and a realistic wood grain with incredible detail. Brixton Pressed Lead carries a softer tonal texture with density variants that include original nicks and grit.

Both of the SVG letterpress styles in this family provide unique transparent textures with amazing detail. Ellen said that the use of color “reveals Brixton Press’ full potential,” but powerful designs that want to bring focus to the gritty textures will look fantastic when rendered in black and white, as well.

For designers who are unable to use SVG fonts, Brixton Pressed provides .otf vector counterparts for both Wood and Lead. They are less detailed than their SVG counterparts but will work universally on all software.

The Brixton Pressed family is ideal for displays, signage, advertisements, product packaging, merchandise, apparel, logo designs, headlines, website designs and banners, marketing materials, book covers, album artwork, social media imagery, posters, and so much more. It’s a beautiful choice for branding and identity projects that need a strong letterpress sans serif on center stage.

Brixton Pressed includes high-resolution .png files (3000px) for every glyph, allowing designers to use the font on a very large scale when needed.

Brixton Pressed extends multilingual support to Basic Latin, Western European, Euro, and Pan African Latin languages. Ellen said that a much greater range of foreign language support is available through the included .png files and can be manually added to your text through your design software.
