Living with his spouse and son in Indonesia, Wisnu Cipto Wibowo is a type designer and illustrator who releases work under the studio label, Fateh Lab.
Aside from working on his own font projects, Wisnu works as a freelance illustrator for several brands and products.
The one thing that draws Wisnu toward typography is the artistic freedom it allows. “I can develop all my wild ideas into fonts,” he told us, adding that it’s a fun activity because the potential ideas are limitless.
“I really like this work,” Wisnu explained, because his “favorite part of the typographic design process is gathering ideas and designing them.” He also enjoys seeing how people utilize his fonts in their graphic designs, and knowing that his work helped them to realize the ideas and the potential of their individual projects.
One of Wisnu’s most recent releases through YouWorkForThem is Qirate Mono, a clean and contemporary monospaced font that carries a strong minimalist style. Qirate Mono is a no-nonsense sans serif with a futuristic and technologically-driven edge that is ideal for programming applications and design projects.
Wisnu said that the font’s development was inspired by a combination of industrial art and fashion, brought together to form a single, cohesive design. Wisnu worked entirely on the computer for Qirate Mono’s design, employing a combination of Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, CorelDraw, and FontLab.
The process behind designing Qirate Mono was not challenging for Wisnu because he had been thinking about this type design for a long time.
Qirate Mono speaks with clarity and conciseness, with a subtle condensed presentation that makes the most of limited horizontal space. Its design makes it especially well suited to designs in the themes of technology, science, mathematics, computers, and of course, programming.

Wisnu told us that his next type design is being crafted with a Spanish theme in mind, explaining that it includes a vector illustration that tells the story of Spanish culture. This upcoming type design is slated to be released very soon and we’re really looking forward to seeing it!
