Based in Jakarta, Indonesia, the Letter Omega type foundry was established by designer Doni Sukma. Letter Omega is largely focused on crafting character sets with a decidedly contemporary spin, exploring modernist themes that occasionally border on the weird side. The foundry and studio focuses on graphic design, art direction, and of course — typography.

As a type designer, Doni’s work puts emphasis on the importance of multilingual functionality. After all, the design marketplace is a global entity and a type family becomes far more useful when it caters to a broad range of international languages. OpenType features are another vital element of Doni’s work through Letter Omega, ensuring that the foundry’s designs are always as versatile as they can possibly be.

One of Letter Omega’s most recent releases through YouWorkForThem is Gimbo, a playful display type family with a touch of retro flair. Gimbo is reminiscent of bold lettering found on stickers, signage, and cartoon titling from the 1980s, yet it’s also perfectly suited to contemporary design projects.

Gimbo speaks with a loud voice and a friendly demeanor. Featuring a thick and rounded architecture, this type design is practically bubbling over with enthusiasm. The super-heavy Gimbo family takes up ample space wherever it goes, conveying every message with confidence and cheerfulness.

Versatility is key with all of Letter Omega’s designs and Gimbo is no different. Its Black and Ultra weights provide sharp corners and a crisper outline, while Black Soft and Ultra Soft offer a warmer character set with rounded edging. For even greater flexibility, Shadow and Shadow Soft provide designers with an instant way to create three-dimensional text displays.

As a display font with a strong visual presence, Gimbo works best in displays and signage, logos, product packaging, advertising, headlines, posters, book covers, cartoons and comics, titling, video games, and any design project that needs a heavy-hitting (yet friendly) sans serif.

Gimbo provides plenty of additional features through OpenType, including fractions, standard ligatures, ordinals, subscript, superscript, scientific inferiors, and oldstyle figures. It extends multilingual support to Basic Latin, Western European, Euro, Baltic, Turkish, Central European, Romanian, Pan African Latin, and Basic Cyrillic to cater to design projects intended for a global audience.

Letter Omega currently offers seven products through YouWorkForThem, including a range of contemporary sans serifs and display type families. Letter Omega’s Bauziet Lights Up the Horizon

The bites or cuts that distinguish Bauziet lend it a dash of the unpredictable and a dysphoric whisper. The result is harsh and attractive architecture, the magnetic beauty of industrial landscapes lit up at night. Bauziet is a modernist structure that evokes a production facility's power and co...
