Operated by Luciano Vergara, Miguel Hernández, and Daniel Hernández, LatinoType was established in 2007 as the first digital type foundry in Chile. Over the past 13 years, the type foundry has progressively grown to become one of the most well-known sources of quality type design in not only Latin America, but the world at large.
When LatinoType first emerged on the scene, one of its biggest goals was to bring attention to Latin American typography. Miguel, Luciano, and Daniel continue to remain passionate about the field of typography, regularly sharing their vast knowledge and experience with folks who are currently studying type design and those who are just beginning to get their careers off the ground.
The foundry emphasizes innovation and collaboration, working with a growing number of graphic and type designers to create what is now an incredibly extensive library of type families. One of LatinoType’s most recent releases is Mixta, designed by Rodrigo Fuenzalida.
Mixta is a sharp and contemporary serif workhorse type family that was “inspired by the idea of mixing different types of terminals in order to give the font a singular appearance,” as its name suggests. Mixta is composed of a variety of diverse lettering styles that include traditional didone and modern typefaces.
Mixta is charismatic and smart, speaking with a clear voice and providing excellent legibility in large and small point. The high contrast design of Mixta carries a subtle dramatic flair, one that is further enhanced by its wedge serifs, yet its casual sophistication makes it perfectly suited for just about any type of design project.
This type family is massive, comprised of three unique styles: Mixta Pro, Mixta Didone, and Mixta Sharp. Mixta Pro is available in Hair, Thin, UltraLight, Light, Regular, Medium, Bold, Black, and Heavy, with corresponding italics for each.
Mixta Didone and Sharp are available in those same weights — without italics. Instead of italics, both Didone and Sharp offer the same full range of weights in an upright Alt version for fantastic versatility.
Mixta was specifically designed for branding, advertising, editorial design, television and tilting, and social media. It is beautifully suited to displays and signage, headlines, print and digital publishing, logo designs, merchandise, apparel, marketing materials, website designs, and mobile applications.
Like most of LatinoType’s work, Mixta Pro includes more than 1,300 glyphs and offers plenty of flexibility through OpenType, including capitals to small caps, case sensitive forms, fractions, standard ligatures, discretionary ligatures, superscript, tabular figures, proportional figures, oldstyle figures, lining figures, small caps, contextual alternates, and stylistic alternates.
Mixta Didone and Sharp provide capitals to small caps, fractions, standard and discretionary ligatures, oldstyle figures, proportional figures, and small caps.
The entire Mixta family extends multilingual support to Basic Latin, Western European, Euro, Catalan, Baltic, Turkish, Central European, Romanian, Pan African Latin, Dutch, Afrikaans, Igbo Onwu, and Basic Cyrillic for design projects intended for an international audience.
Right now through August 18, 2020, Mixta is on sale for 80% off of its regular price so it’s a great time to add this workhorse family to your font collection!
