Kostic Type Foundry in Belgrade, Serbia, is owned and operated by Zoran and Nikola Kostic, father and son, respectively. While the pair have worked together as equal partners since 2010, type design has been Zoran’s unyielding passion for decades.
In 1987, during a time when PostScript Cyrillic fonts were not yet under development by anyone else, Zoran chose to take matters into his own hands by designing one himself. As he developed his very first letter set, the process began to open his eyes, illuminating an entirely new world of possibilities for creating something beautiful and unique. That once-tiny spark quickly bloomed into an inextinguishable fire that has raged within him ever since. Zoran continued on to create more Cyrillic fonts that would parallel the Latin fonts already in existence, in addition to designing some of his own original fonts from scratch.
As a boy, Nikola would watch Zoran work in his DTP graphic design studio. The 80s and 90s were a fascinating time, as so many technological advances were made and graphic design itself matured into an entirely unstoppable force. Nikola followed in the footsteps of his father’s career, receiving a master’s degree in graphic design from the University of Arts in Belgrade, Serbia, in 2003.
While he enjoyed a substantial love for graphic design, when it came to designing type, Nikola had not yet succumbed to the same enthusiasm that had enchanted his father so many years before. It wasn’t until he was in his thirties that Nikola found any great enjoyment in creating fonts, and it would require a significant amount of work, discipline, and dedication on his part to master the craft as his father had.
When he finally did, Nikola and his father built a working partnership together and have since committed themselves to the work of their namesake foundry.
Kostic Type Foundry’s latest design offering, Mongoose, is a condensed sans serif font that’s perfect for countless design applications. Available in Desktop OpenType, WebFont, ePub, and Mobile App options, this font family is an incredibly versatile set.
Mongoose Black is a bold, heavyweight letter set designed with headlines in mind. When used in a newspaper or magazine layout, Mongoose Black demands immediate attention to any publication’s most informative content.
Mongoose Bold is slightly narrower in stature and is perhaps a bit more manageable in smaller point than Mongoose Black, yet it provides more than adequate emphasis for headlines and subheadings for print and digital publications.
Mongoose Medium is a mid-weight bold set that creates a striking contrast as a headline when lightweight text is used for the main content, and it makes an excellent font choice for eye-catching subheadings placed within an article. It’s an ideally proportioned weight for applications that require a bold typeface to entice readers, yet it won’t overwhelm them with bulky letter shapes in the process.
Mongoose Thin is gorgeous with its rounded lines and flowing letters. This ultra-lightweight set is beautiful on motivational graphic artwork, and adds a touch of modern flair to website content. While Mongoose Thin is a condensed font, the absence of weight creates the illusion of a wider, airy space. Using it in conjunction with a heavier typeface creates an aesthetically pleasing balance in logo design, poster design, promotional materials, and book cover artwork.
The complete Mongoose font family consists of twelve letter sets: Thin, Light, Regular, Medium, Bold, and Black, with corresponding italic sets for each. Figures are available in proportional and tabular widths, subscript and superscript positions, and fractions.
Mongoose is available at a 50% discount until April 5, 2016. Contact us for more information about this sale or to learn more about the many uses for this versatile font from Kostic Type Foundry.
