TypeType foundry was established by Ivan Gladkikh and Alexander Kudryavtsev in 2013 as one of the first digital font foundries in St. Petersburg, Russia. Over the years that have passed since, the foundry has continued to grow and flourish in an international design market.

TypeType never ceases to craft type designs that are beautifully structured in terms of design aesthetics and one core aspect of their work is the inclusion of extensive OpenType features and multilingual support. Particularly for those graphic designers who require Cyrillic script for their work, TypeType is a source of high-quality typography that will meet those very specific design needs.

While the foundry remains hard at work creating new typefaces all the time, it has also built a reputation for education and collaboration. TypeType shares its knowledge with many would-be and up-and-coming typographers through workshops and font design courses to help bring fresh skills, new ideas, and unique artistry into the field.

TypeType has worked with numerous typographers since the foundry was established, including Phillip Nurullin. Phillip’s background is focused primarily on web design, type design, and typography. In the past, Phillip has designed or contributed to several of TypeType’s releases, including TT Rounds Neue, TT Tunnels, and TT Tricks.

One of his more recent designs for TypeType is TT Severs, a geometric grotesque sans serif with an unusual and distinctive feature in most of its closed apertures and some of its open apertures. Reminiscent of the style of traditional Arabic writing, the ovals in letters like “O” and “D” are atypical, creating a strong sense of uniqueness, personality, and character within this font family. The forward-thinking approach to this design makes it especially well suited to projects in the fields of IT, web design, robotics, computer games, and even sports.

TT Severs is available in Thin, ExtraLight, Light, Regular, Medium, DemiBold, Bold, ExtraBold, and Black, with corresponding italics for each weight. With so many fonts on hand and its high legibility in any size, this family is well suited to everything from large-scale signage and displays to bold headlines, editorials, letterhead, corporate communications, logos, advertising, product packaging, web design, mobile applications, publishing, infographics, and presentations. TT Severs’ range of weights also makes it a great choice for identity and branding projects where design cohesion is key across multiple media types and sizes.

As with most of TypeType’s past releases, TT Severs is loaded with OpenType features that include case sensitive forms, contextual alternates, numerators, denominators, fractions, superscript, discretionary ligatures, standard ligatures, tabular figures, oldstyle figures, and stylistic alternates. Speaking of stylistic alternates, the ones included with TT Severs give it a more humanist grotesque appearance similar to that of broad nib pen writing, providing designers with even more flexibility with this font family.

A Geometric Grotesque Sans Serif With A Twist: TT Severs - 1

TT Severs’ multilingual support is extensive, as well, covering Basic Latin, Western European, Euro, Baltic, Turkish, Central European, Romanian, Pan African Latin, Latin Ligatures, and Basic Cyrillic for fantastic accessibility in international design projects.

TypeType currently offers 44 products through YouWorkForThem, a varied range of sans serifs, serifs, scripts, display fonts, and even a few experimental type projects for graphic design applications of all kinds.
